Simon de Mowbray
Trained at the Rambert School in London and with a number of prominent teachers at the Dance Centre ( open class’s).
I danced 2 years in the ballet of the Stadttheater Krefeld-Moenchengladbach in Germany.Then in 1976 I joined the Dutch National Ballet, where I spent the rest of my dancing career, retiring in 1988.
1985-6 I completed the Professional Dancers Teaching course at the RAD in London.
My first teaching was for Krisztina de Chatel, 2x a week, in my last 2 seasons with HNB.
I began guest teaching, for the Rambert Company, Victor Ullate, HNB, Introdans and others, and at the open studios in Amsterdam.
1990-1 I was balletmaster/teacher for Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, USA.
From 1991 — 2002 I was a freelancer, and worked substantially with NDT, Introdans, Scapino, Kr.de Ch., Danceworks, Danstheater Arena, Rotterdam Dance Academy, Royal Conservatory in Den Haag and the open studios in A’dam, Den Haag and Rotterdam.
Internationally I had engagements with Frankfurt Ballet, Scottish Ballet, London Contemporary D.T.,Ballettheater Muenchen, Ballets de Monte Carlo, Bordeaux, Basel , Geneva, Cullberg Ballet, Vienna, Linz, Dusseldorf, Finnish National Ballet,Nuremberg, and others.
As a guest teacher for ROSAS, I was invited to join the regular staff of guests at PARTS as principal ballet teacher, and worked there during 5 years.
2002 I became director of the NBA, here at the Theaterschool, for 5 years, before deciding to return to teaching a lot more and accompanying students as coach and stage begeleider.
Having been one of the earliest beneficiaries of the Dancers Retraining Scheme here in the Netherlands, I was a member of the board for about 10 years.
I am presently on the board of the Henny Jurriens Stichting Amsterdam.
